To all friends of children’s day care (Kindertagespflege) in Cologne!

We are living in challenging times, effects of which are also clearly noticeable in day care facilities. As Kindertagespflege is often invisible as far as childhood early education is concerned, we have to keep fighting for its survival.
Some of the reasons responsible for this situation are as follows:
– Cologne is becoming less attractive for families with children, as the excessive rents result in migration to the suburbs.
– Babies and toddlers are being placed in overcrowded and understaffed Kindergartens.
– There is a decline in the birth rate in Germany.
– The city of Cologne is not in a position to adequately fund the work of day care professionals.
As a result of these negative developments, fewer and fewer children are able to benefit from high-quality day care.
Many of our colleagues are forced to give up their jobs. This is impacting particularly hard on child daycare professionals who rent their premises. Many people are unaware of the fact that we are entrepreneurs who are only partially subsidized. High rental costs, and index-linked rents for commercial properties have to be largely borne by the day care workers
themselves.
Cologne’s child day care community therefore needs a strong lobby! The image of day care in the city needs to be urgently improved. Appreciation and recognition are just as important as appropriate salaries!

The association Kindertagespflege Köln e.V. is committed to the needs, rights and goals of parents, children and day care professionals. All active members have invested many hours and private funds in order to strengthen the political support of Cologne’s Kindertagespflege. Unfortunately this cannot continue anymore. We are not able to provide financial resources for administration, promotion and urgent needs. We need your help to be able to provide high quality care for children in a sustainable manner.
Every donation counts! With your support we can ensure that every child and grandchild will be able to attend their day care facilties, where they will continue to learn the important social skills and learn how to become independent. All this will take place
in small groups with a permanent daycare proffesional assigned for each group.
Without your support, children’s day care in Cologne will soon disappear.
